1997 CHANCELLOR'S FALL CONFERENCE
THE FULLY ENGAGED UNIVERSITY II: OUTREACH TO THE CAPITAL REGION

A major goal of the 1997 Chancellor's Fall Conference is the development of a list of priorities or action items for the campus in three key areas where there are pressing regional needs: K-12 education, business and economic development, and community development.

An important precursor to the development of those priorities is a SWOT analysis (SWOT is an acronym for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.) SWOT analysis is an easy technique used in the development of a strategic plan that is based on the assumption that an effective strategy results from a good "fit" between an organization's internal capabilities (i.e., its strengths and weaknesses) and its external situation (i.e., opportunities and threats posed by the environment.)

The small groups at the 1997 Chancellor's Fall Conference will participate in a modified form of a SWOT analysis on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, the large breakout groups will use the results of that analysis to develop the list of priorities or action items for each of the three areas.
