COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Strengths and Opportunities
- University has resources: human capital students/staff/faculty
- Take opportunities offered by community groups -- include
an evaluation component
- Build buy-in from the top and community groups
- Take advantage of student resources -- internships class credits
- Performance review process -- cultural shift needed
- Create new models for interdisciplinary work and capacity
to evaluate fairly
- Opportunity to collaborate with CSU, CC, CBO's
Weaknesses and Threats
- Lack of clarity about the term "outreach"
- Perception of UCD/Davis held by regional communities
- Inadequate emphasis/reward for contribution of staff
- Need better means of information sharing and coordination
- Need fair/adequate reward system re: outreach, incentives
needed: release time
- Inadequate time/attention to relationship with state government.
Priorities/Action Items
- Identify community leaders/spokespersons with whom to work.
- Develop processes which foster partnerships/exchange of information/knowledge.
- Expand on web page/bulletin board, resource information to campus and community.
- Address issues of accessibility of information (internally and externally).
