UC Davis - Office of the Chancellor - Executive Recruitment

PROVOST AND EXECUTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR
University of California, Davis

The University of California, Davis, invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor reports to the Chancellor and is the chief academic and chief operating officer of the campus.

A member of the Association of American Universities, The University of California, Davis, is among the largest and most academically diverse campuses in the 10-campus University of California system with 1,600 faculty, more than 22,600 undergraduate students, and 6,800 graduate and professional students. The campus has four colleges (Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering, and Letters and Science), five professional schools (Education, Law, Management, Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine), a national primate center, a major veterinary medical teaching hospital, and a major medical center in Sacramento. A School of Nursing and a School of Public Health are planned. The campus’s distinctive graduate group structure and exceptionally collegial culture promote strongly interdisciplinary pursuits, and its ethos of partnership and service – and proximity to the State Capital – make it a ready resource for policy makers and state agencies and the logical home for several state and federal research facilities.

As Executive Vice Chancellor, the incumbent shares with the Chancellor the overall coordination of campus administration with emphasis on day-to-day operations, supervision of budget preparation, allocation of funds, policy development, health sciences administration, and physical planning, including the long range development plan. As Provost, the incumbent is the chief academic officer for the campus and is responsible for academic planning, academic and administrative computing, academic programs, academic personnel administration, diversity, libraries, international programs, University Extension, and several academic support programs, and for liaison with the Academic Senate and the Academic Federation. The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor is responsible for a budget of over $2.3 billion.

The University seeks a person of academic distinction with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in academic leadership and management in a research university or its equivalent. Essential requirements include a scholarly and teaching record appropriate for a position as full professor in the University of California; experience working within a complex institutional environment; and the proven ability to articulate the University's goals of academic excellence in learning, discovery, and engagement to both internal and external constituencies. The University of California, Davis, has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of diversity among its faculty, staff, and students, and seeks an individual who shares that commitment.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The starting date will be July 1, 2008 or as negotiated.

Review of candidates will begin in early November; the position will remain open until filled. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Nominations, applications, and requests for additional information should be addressed to:
